With reference to your letter No.92653/32 of
the 8th October 1932, on the subject of the staff required
for the Shing Mun Valley Waterworks Scheme, Hong Kong,
I have the honour to transmit herewith copies of a letter
and enclosures which we have received from Messrs. Binnie,
Deacon & Gourlay regarding the appointment of a
Cableway Driver, and to enquire whether the Secretary of
State approves of our proceeding to select and engage a
candidate for the appointment on a three year's agreement,
with salary at the rate of £500 a year, transport
allowance of $25 per mensem, and free quarters or an
allowance in lieu.
I have also to ask whether there is any
objection to the selection of Mr. W. F. Coutts, referred to
in the correspondence, on account of his nationality,
provided that we are satisfied that he is a suitable
candidate in other respects for the appointment.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your obedient servant,
Estraunder
for Crown Agents.
The Under Secretary of State,
COLONIAL OFFICE.
